Prevention from being able to click on links is essentially a security measure put in place by the recipient's email provider. It's important to remember there are so many malicious emails out there that most email programs and even email providers try to protect people from clicking unsafe links. Ultimately, what the recipient of an email actually sees depends on many things.
- Ask your client to clear out their browser's cache/browsing history. When they have done that, close out the browser and re-start it in a fresh session. If that doesn't do it, then try using a different browser.
- The email service that your recipient uses can block links. Your recipient may need to adjust either their security software or their email program and the options that determine what can and can’t be clicked.
- Global settings such as “Always allow me to click on links” may be unchecked. Sometimes, it’s a per-user setting so that the recipient can say, “Whenever I get an email from this sender, enable the links because I trust where this email came from.” This fix can be as simple as a click when they see a message or adding your email address to their contact list.
- If a link does not open in your Web browser when you click on it, your email client may not recognize the way the link was formatted. Since some email clients handle links differently, the way one email program or webmail interface formats links may not be recognized by another email client.
Google / Outlook:
- If the Junk Email Filter doesn’t consider a message to be spam but does consider it to be phishing, the message is left in the Inbox, but any links in the message are disabled.
- If you want to enable the links in a message, in the Reading Pane or open message, in the InfoBar at the top of the message, click Enable links and other functionality
- If the Junk Email Filter considers the message to be both spam and phishing, the message is automatically sent to the Junk Email folder. Any message sent to the Junk Email folder is saved in plain text format and all links are disabled.
Ask Your Clients to do the following:
- Click Home.
- In the Delete group, click Junk, and then click Junk Email Options.
- On the Options tab, clear the Disable Link and other functionality in phishing messages (recommended) Checkbox.
